Biri Island is one island in a cluster of about 18 off the northern end of Samar. The island cluster is known as the balicuartro Islands. You will find Biri Island the most northerly, in the straits which divide the main Island of Luzon and the Island of Samar. This strait is responsible for moving nearly 70% of the water that flows in and out of the Visayas, the strait is known as the San Bernardino Strait. So you can imagine that the tidal current can be ferocious.
Biri Island is subjected to some major pounding by the might of the Pacific Ocean, couple that with the fierce tidal currents and you can get some incredible natural scenery. Biri Island is blessed with natural beauty, it is a little less than 8 kilometres long and at its widest point is roughly 2 ½ kilometres.
Biri Island has one of the worlds most amazing rock formation, it has powdery whit sand beaches, Chrystal clear blue waters.

 | Bobon Beach Resort, Northern SamarBobon Beach Resort, I found the staff to be very accommodating and warm hearted, The rooms were very comfortable with extraordinary views of the beaches and ocean, the Restaurant and Bar were excellent, with full service, with a great menu to offer.
I was amazed at how many foreign tourists were there, I had so much fun with the friends and guests of Chris & Theresa, they made me feel like a family member.
The Beach and Ocean was such a nice change to the commercial places i have stayed in before, the views of the volcano and the surrounding Islands was so nice.
The water sports and travel rentals were very Inexpensive, all in all i would rate this place with a 9/10 Thank you to all the staff for your excellent service, and thank you to Chris & Theresa for showing me around, the Island hopping trips were so much fun, I will be back soon..

Simply Paradise Within Paradise....
Capul Island was originally founded by King Abak who escaped from Java with his tribe before the onslaught of Islam. The Island was then called Abak in his honor.
The King chose the island due to its almost impenetrable position and in fact it's easily defended with only two aproaches, one to the north east and another to the south west.
When the Spanish invaders arrived they had a hard time to take the Island and in fact did so for the same exact reasons as King Abak had done so many years before. but the Spanish need the Island as protection from Pirates which is another story we shall come to later.
The Spanish chose the Island as an assembly point for the Galleon fleet, some coming from the south others, including the Manila Galleon, coming from the north.
Here they would organize ship cargoes, smelt golden objects into ingots and readied for the crossing of the Pacific to Acapulco Mexico.
The Abak people of Capul speak even today a language not understood by anyone not even the people of Samar, its called ABAK-NON.
And in their way of speaking many years ago, they could not pronounce the word ACAPULCO, Alcapulco being the Spanish name given to this Island, Acapulco Philippines.Therefor the initial A and the last CO got lost and today the place is officially known as CAPUL.
From the remains of the Church and fort that was built by the Spanish Jesuits more than 400 years ago, which in fact is the oldest such building in the Visayas, one can easily see how the place was difficult to take.
Today the Island lives on coconut farming and fishing and is extremely poor but very dignified.
A little road is being built to go all the way around the island which is most picturesque and photogenic and so too are the shy and smiling inhabitants some of whom have never seen travellers.
Now Capul Island has become a famous tourism destination, with many white sand beaches, Clear Blue waters, Abundant fresh sea foods, Fish, water sports, Caves, waterfalls, Lighthouse, Old Church, and has many things to offer and to be explored....

| Catarman Northern SamarCatarman is a second class municipality in the province of Northern Samar, Philippines. It is the capital municipality of the province. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 67,671 people in 12,437 households. In recent years, the growth of the municipality has been rapid - new business firms now mushrooming in its business district.
Catarman is a developing town on the shoulder of Samar Island. The town is in the process of renewing its image as a poor and underdeveloped town in the 1980s. Its city hood was put to a halt after the mayors of neighboring towns Mondragon and Bobon declined the Catarman mayor's offer to include the said towns under the proposed Catarman City conglomeration.
Catarman area is unspoilt by tourism, and has few tourist amenities. Small friendly pension houses are the norm. Caterman has good market and provincial shopping, and is recovering very well from major fire that devestated central area.
Airport is very basic, making flights in and out interesting, as flight path is out to sea, with runway starting at beach, and road runs right through centre of runway!
Beatiful countryside, and small villages. Very clean beaches, but limited development (hunt out the few resorts).

History
San Antonio was established in 1904. Since its inception, stories have been told that the place was named three times before it was called San Antonio.
San Antonio is known as a sanctuary of fish and birds, which is why settlers from the mainland of Samar in the start of 19th century found this place an ideal ground for fishing and hunting. They come to the island just to catch fish and hunt birds and go back after a handful of catch. People from Bohol and Cebu came to the island in the second half of the 19th century and introduced a method of catching fish using net, commonly known as "laya". With its introduction, the name "Manoglaya" was born, which literally means "mano nga paraglaya" or fishermen using laya.
As new settlers came and built new communities in the island, they changed its name to "Sugod-sugod", a Cebuano derivative meaning "just to start or begin". The name was changed to "Matabia", referring to the knife-shape of the island. No one knows now why it was changed that way, neither folklores nor historical data reveal the way and therefore of the change. Having no particular preference to immortalize name without great significance, Christians decided to change the name to San Antonio and set Saint Anthony of Padua as their patron saint.

 | San Antonio Island, Northern SamarThere is so much fun In san Antonio, there was lots to do and see, I got to try out the fastest wave runner in the Philippines, this crazy machine does 80mph, and holds well in the water. I went On a Charter Fishing Trip with Captain John from Waves resort, we caught so many fish, and of course we BBQ them back at the resort.

History
San Antonio was established in 1904. Since its inception, stories have been told that the place was named three times before it was called San Antonio.
San Antonio is known as a sanctuary of fish and birds, which is why settlers from the mainland of Samar in the start of 19th century found this place an ideal ground for fishing and hunting. They come to the island just to catch fish and hunt birds and go back after a handful of catch. People from Bohol and Cebu came to the island in the second half of the 19th century and introduced a method of catching fish using net, commonly known as "laya". With its introduction, the name "Manoglaya" was born, which literally means "mano nga paraglaya" or fishermen using laya.
As new settlers came and built new communities in the island, they changed its name to "Sugod-sugod", a Cebuano derivative meaning "just to start or begin". The name was changed to "Matabia", referring to the knife-shape of the island. No one knows now why it was changed that way, neither folklores nor historical data reveal the way and therefore of the change. Having no particular preference to immortalize name without great significance, Christians decided to change the name to San Antonio and set Saint Anthony of Padua as their patron saint.
